Intel has announced that their new Arc Alchemist graphics cards will not have a cryptocurrency mining limiter. This is an interesting move as many other companies are now implementing such a feature, but it remains to be seen how this will affect the market and the industry as a whole.

The Arc Alchemist graphics cards from Intel will not come with a cryptocurrency mining restriction or any other software lockup that stops miners from fully using the devices’ mining capabilities. In an interview with Gadget 360, Roger Chandler, Intel’s VP and GM of Client Graphics Products and Solutions, stated that the business hasn’t developed any features that target miners. Chandler said, “It’s not a priority.”
Will Alchemist have any hardware or software lockouts to discourage mining […?] Gadget 360: Will Alchemist have any hardware or software lockouts to discourage mining […?]
Chandler: This is a difficult question to address, but I would say that Intel Arc and the Alchemist family of devices are designed with gamers and creators in mind. All of our optimizations, additions, and other efforts are aimed at ensuring that we can solve issues and provide value to players and creators. In terms of software lockouts and the like, we’re not developing this product or implementing any features that particularly target miners at this time. It’s a product that will be on the market and people will be able to purchase it in terms of the measures we’re doing to prevent or shut them out. We don’t make it a priority.
Raja Koduri makes some remarks on Alchemist’s supply in Gadgets 360’s interview. Due to the present market, the SVP and GM of Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics was hesitant to offer any guarantees.
Gadgets 360: Is Intel sure that there will be enough Arc GPUs available at launch?
Koduri: Our OEM clients and end users have reacted positively to our announcements during architecture day. Everyone is embracing us, which is fantastic news. We’ll be the third player on the field. When demand is so strong and the market is so difficult, I’ll always be careful. More supplies is always welcome. So, in this high-demand market, I’m not going to claim I have adequate supply. Right now, I believe every single one of my rivals will say the same thing.
According to current reports, Intel’s Arc Alchemist graphics cards will be released in Q2 2022.
