I’m Mactics, and I’m here to say hello!
This tutorial will include everything you need to know before your first grandmaster evening of the season!
To begin, what exactly is a grandmaster nightfall? A grandmaster nightfall, or GM, is a standard strike with a variety of opponent kinds, modifications, and restrictions that make it more difficult than a standard strike.
The light level entrance barrier is the first of these regulations. To enter Grandmaster nightfalls, you must have a rather high power level. In previous seasons, you had to be at least 15 light levels above the season’s current pinnacle gear cap, and the same is true today. So, in Season 15, when the basic limit is 1330, you’ll need to be 15 points higher, or 1345. Keep in mind, though, that any combination of basic gear and artifact power boost may get you to this level. So, with a basic gear power level of 1329 and a bonus artifact power of 16, you’d be able to go in!
Let’s speak about the most important modifier in GMs, contest, while we’re on the subject of power levels. The contest modifier, which is present in all GMs, locks you at a certain power level, essentially removing whatever extra power you have when you enter the room. In GMs, the contest modifier locks you in at the power level needed to enter that GM. Because you must be at least 1345 to join GMs in Season 15, the contest modifier will limit you to 1345 while playing them, meaning any power over 1345 will be useless.
Moving on, all grandmasters have a set of preset contest modifications, such as champions: mob, which includes more champions, joining in progress disabled… Even if you get error coded, locked loadouts (no weapon swapping or subclass tweaking once you enter), match game (enemy shields are extremely resistant to any mismatched elemental damage), and additional shields (self explanatory)!
In addition, each grandmaster nightfall will have a unique modification that is unique to that strike.
The champion modifications are the last kind of modifier to discuss. What do champions entail? Champions are adversaries in Destiny 2 that need the usage of special stun or interrupt techniques in order to be defeated successfully.
In Destiny, there are three kinds of champions: barriers, overloads, and unstoppables.
When damage falls below a specific level, usually 80%, barrier champions activate a shield. To be shattered, this shield must be fired using an anti-barrier weapon. The champion will be momentarily stunned if the shield is broken. The champion will begin to recover health while the shield is up if it is not fired at.
With the exception of overload hobgoblins, overload champions are generally hostile and prefer to attack you. Overload champions are immune to harm and recover health on a regular basis. To stun overload champions, you must first prepare an overload round by firing a few bullets with an overload weapon. The overload round will shock the champion for a few seconds if you hit them with it. They will be unstunable for a short time after being unstunned, as evidenced by their white antlers, although they will continue to recover health if not shot with overload bullets. During this period, you must continue to fire them with overload bullets until they are ready to be shocked again.
Finally, we have champions who are unstoppable. Unstoppable champions will pursue you until you are shocked. While not shocked, they have a high level of damage resistance. You must aim down sights with an unstoppable weapon for a short time to prepare an unstoppable round to shock an unstoppable champion. An unstoppable champion will be stunned for a short time if they are hit with an unstoppable round. As evidenced by their white antlers, they will be unable to be restunned for a short while once they have recovered.
By examining at the modifiers of each grandmaster evening, you can tell what kinds of champions are there. The majority of grandmaster nightfalls have just two kinds of champions, with only a handful possessing all three.
So, we’re talking about awe-inspiring champions with overload, barrier, and invincible weaponry, but what are these things?
The artifact contains a set of seasonal modifications for each season. The champion weapon modifications for each season are included in these seasonal mods. There are additional modifications for stunning champions that are dependent on their abilities. Weapon champion modifications, on the other hand, are the bread and butter, and they all fit into your gauntlets.
Auto guns for anti-barrier, bows and swords for overload, and fusion rifles, pulse rifles, and sidearms for unstoppable are all available in Season 15. Some exotics, like as Erianna’s Vow with Anti Barrier, Divinity with Overload, Bastion with Unstoppable, and a few others, have built-in champion stun modifications.
Finally, we’ll talk about revives. If you are killed in Grandmaster Nightfalls, you will remain dead until a teammate picks you up. You do, however, have a limited number of revives. You start each grandmaster nighttime with a specific number of tokens, and each time you revive a teammate, you spend 1 token. Killing a champion, on the other hand, will provide you one extra revive token. These tokens are team-wide, and you may have a maximum of 20, with all of your tokens disappearing once the strike reaches 45 minutes. If all three players die at the same time at any point during the game, your team is sent back into orbit, and you must restart with the extinguish modifier.
So, now that you’ve covered the fundamentals, how do you begin your first grandmaster nightfall?
The first step is to form a group! Grandmaster Nightfalls has no matching, so you’ll have to pick your own partners.
The second step is to prepare your loadout. Once you know which champions you’ll be facing, equip your weapons and couple champion modifications, and make sure you’ve covered all of your components to break through all of the shields. Keep a watch out for the brief tips I publish here on reddit for each GM nighttime if you ever need a solid loadout suggestion!
Step three is to try, try, and try again! Grandmasters are very difficult to defeat, and you may have to erase a few times before you succeed. Just remember to keep your head up and try to learn as you go!
Finally, if you have any more questions, please post them in the comments section below, and I will do my best to answer them!
Thank you, and best of luck!
